Brad and I have been thinking about this week for the past few months, and we couldn't have dreamed of a better Brave unit family to work with all summer. Each member brings different life experiences and strengths to the table. If this summer is anything like this past week, I know its going to be the best summer yet.
All of the coords and leadership were getting to know and watching each of the staff for the first four days of staff training. On Monday night we came together to discuss the entire staff and talk about where each person will fit into the puzzle of this summer. I know where everyone was placed will make camp amazing this summer. God definitely helped to make for some wonderful groups of people.
BRAD AND I WERE SO EXCITED!
I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work with Brad this summer. I've always been amazed by Brad's character and just the person that he is. He is consistently kind and intentional with all of his relationships. When finding out that I would get the opportunity to work with him all summer, I was BEYOND excited. I continue to tell him how happy I am to work with him. He is so patient and strong for me when I get over my head or am feeling sick (aka this week). I know we make a wonderful pair, and I pray to God that we can continue to bless the lives of all those kids that are going to be in our Brave unit. I'm happy that I get the opportunity to learn from him. His relationship with Christ is so strong. I hope to continue to strengthen mine by following his example.
After spending months and a multitude of hours looking at peoples faces and having personal conversations, our thoughts and prayers were answered. We were blessed with an amazing group of 20 Brave counselors. Throughout the rest of the week we had the opportunity to hang out, talk, and bond with one another. These people show to me how to be open and vulnerable. What it means to be work as a team and a family and the meaning of love. I can't wait to see the change God has in store for each and every one of them and how they will change my life this summer. We climbed a 12 foot wall in 20 minutes, struggled through hammocks, shared our stories, and made bracelets together. It's gonna be GREAT.
Another blessing of this week was the great girls that were placed in my staff training cabin. Each one of them brought a wonderful energy and perspective to the mix. I loved all the laughter and joy we were able to share with one another this week. It always makes me so excited to see the change from the first day to the end of the week. As we lose our nerves and get to know one another, we are able to see the beauty in each other. I know each of my girls will make AMAZING counselors, and I am so lucky that so many of them will be in the Riv, so I can see them in action.
Look how fun they are!!!
Even though this week was completely exhausting, it was one of the best. Camp can always bring me back to the person who I am, and the person I want to always be. This summer I want to continue to strengthen the real Kellie and bring her back home after the summer is over. I thank everyone for blessing me this week in more ways than you know.
